A woman from a prestigious family helps her husband become king, but their relationship deteriorates as he takes many concubines. Tensions rise as the king seeks to control her and her family.

Queen Won Kyung, born to Min Je in the Goryeo period, comes from a prestigious family of high-ranking officials. She marries Lee Bang Won (Prince Jeongan), son of King Taejo, founder of the Joseon dynasty. When King Taejo names his second son, Lee Bang Gwa, as the successor, Lady Min and her husband plot to make Lee Bang Won the next king. After Lee Bang Won becomes King Taejong, he takes multiple concubines, causing tension with Queen Won Kyung. As her relationship with the king worsens, King Taejong seeks to control her and her family to strengthen his authority.
