When Eliza Scarlet's father dies, he leaves her penniless, but she resolves to continue his detective agency. To operate in a male-dominated world, though, she needs a partner... step forward a detective known as the Duke. Eliza and The Duke strike up a mismatched, fiery relationship as they team up to solve crime in the murkiest depths of 1880’s London.
S02: Eliza has solved her father’s murder, her relationship with William, the Duke, continues to slowly simmer, and Eliza continues to face challenges of being a professional woman in a male dominated Victorian London.
S03: Eliza Scarlet finds herself immersed in fresh and surprising mysteries as she struggles to build her detective agency. Growing competition from a rival agency creates new problems, and all the while she is still juggling her relationship with Inspector William Wellington, the Duke. And she has a new challenge on that front: a beautiful woman from her childhood has caught the Duke’s eye.
S04: Eliza is running a London-based detective agency. Things are not going entirely smoothly, although help comes from some familiar sources. Outside work, her relationship with William builds towards a looming decision that will shape both their lives.
S05: Eliza's agency is thriving and her professional life is on a successful path. On the personal side, however, Duke has now been away in New York for several months and Eliza is forced to make a difficult decision. Meanwhile, a new Detective Inspector comes to Scotland Yard and Eliza must navigate building a relationship with him if she's going to continue having access to police resources. All these changes and decisions beg the question: Can Eliza Scarlet have it all?
